Stellar Blue is a Rising Star

February’s excitement carried on from acquisition to awards as Stellar Blue was announced the 2010 recipient of the Rising Star Award at the Heart of the Valley Chamber of Commerce Annual Award dinner on February 16th.

Stellar Blue is the 6th recipient of the Rising Star, which was created by the Heart of the Valley Chamber to recognize a business that has been in operation less than five years and is a member of the chamber. The chamber’s Board of Directors refers to the award as recognition of “Up and Coming.”

The chamber put on a great event at the Badger Sports Park in Appleton with tons of games, prizes, and networking.

“To hear Stellar Blue being called out for the Rising Star was a great feeling. This recognition for all our hard and continuing work makes what we do even more exciting,” Managing Director Jim Dobinski said.

The Rising Star Award is an acknowledgment to the entrepreneurs who skillfully combine a vision, energy, talent, and determination to successfully run a newer business.

This award is a public acknowledgement of Stellar Blue’s hard work and dedication to you and your company’s Internet marketing. We could not have gotten where we are, nor received this recognition, if not for clients like you.

So…on that note, thank you! We look forward to continuing our work and providing you with quality Internet marketing solutions, strategies, and design.

SEO: Understand Internal and In-Bound Linking

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a hot topic of discussion for all companies with a web presence. There are multiple components that make up an effective SEO strategy including the use of links: internal and in-bound. The use of links increases site popularity and navigation that suits search engines and viewers.

To better understand how to use links within your own website we’ll break down internal and in-bound link strategies that you can easily implement.

Internal Linking
Internal linking is simply the links within your site that redirect the viewer to other pages on the site. This component is another way of telling the search engines what your web pages are about when they spider your website. In addition to optimizing for the spiders, this will increase the navigation functionality for the site visitors.

Keyword Use – As stated in the February newsletter, keywords are multi-functional. Not only are they another component to SEO; but also, they play a major role in effective internal linking.

Use keywords in your internal links. For instance, if you have content on your first page that states “We’re your premier destination for recreation and relaxation,” and you have another page on your site dedicated to recreation ideas, link ‘recreation’ to that coordinating page. Search engine spiders like this and your visitors will too.

Internal linking is also part of your website through the actual navigation – the tabs that redirect viewers to different pages, for example ‘Home’ and ‘Contact Us.’ To further use your keywords, place them within those tabs.

However, it’s important to remember not to overdo the internal linking. Linking text makes the words blue and active. Too many active links within the text could be distracting and cause the site visitor to unintentionally jump to a different page, decreasing your site’s navigation functionality.

Site Map – Does your site have a site map? They aren’t always the most cosmetically appealing pages on a site, but they do offer a one-stop shop for all your site’s page links. A site map is your site’s line-item list of all the links to each page. This source of internal links should be a collection of the most important web page links in your web site with keyword-optimized text. To better understand, check out Stellar Blue’s site map.

In-Bound Linking
In-bound linking is a strategy to increase your site’s popularity with the search engines. The goal in acquiring in-bound linking is to get more links on different web sites than your competition. Basically, the more links you have pointing to your web site, the higher your Google PageRank score (Google’s popularity contest) will be. In other words, which do you think Google likes better? 1000 links from the one web site? Or, 1000 links from 1000 different web sites?

How to acquire in-bound linking:
• Place ads and links on portal sites such as social media networks
• Submit your web site to the important registries such as http://www.dmoz.org/
• Conduct an Internet public relations (I-PR) campaign and get publicity on the websites that your target market reads such as http://www.publicityadvisor.com/
• Write articles and get them placed on blogs and forums in your industry or topic.
• Conduct a reciprocal linking campaign.
• Get text link ads on web sites that your target market reads
• Get more “Relevant Links” from quality sites than your competition.

Be careful not to Spam, issues that cause the spiders to blacklist your web site – adhere to natural linking policies by getting links on a wide variety of web sites on different networks.

The more components you understand of SEO, the more successful your site will be. Keep in mind, all SEO strategies take time to be recognized by search engines but the payoff is well worth the wait.

Questions on either internal or in-bound linking? Call Stellar Blue Web Design at 920.905.0250 or email info@stellarbluewebdesign.com with any questions or inquiries about the above SEO components.

Industry News

Yahoo! Finance has released interesting stats concerning mobile devices. According to their survey "91% of mobile phone users go online to socialize compared to 79% of traditional desktop users. Mobile phone users are 1.6 times more likely to manage finances compared to traditional desktop users (62% vs. 39%)."

According to an Intraspin Study, "42% of search users click the top-ranking link. 8% click the second-ranking link, and the click-through  rate (CTR) continues to drop thereof. In addition, 80% of unsuccessful search are followed with keyword refinement."

Quick Hit SEO Tip

The internal linking component is another way of telling the search engines what your web pages are about when they spider your web site. For example, add a site map to your site with a line-item list of links to pages. Each of your web pages can link to the most important web pages in your web site with keyword optimized anchor text. The same keyword text can also be used when posting events on your site calendar.
